The vineyard is referred to as Finca Hoya de Santa Ana and this bottling comes from the best parcel and the highest point so they call it Altos de la Hoya...meaning the "highest from La Hoya".
ORIENTATION: Located in the northern part of the appellation at close to 825 meters in elevation.
SOIL: sand and chalk
VITICULTURE: bush trained vines. Functionally organic.
VINIFICATION: traditional fermentation.
AGING: aged in a combination of barrique and demi-muid. A few are new but most are 2nd and 3rd passage barrels from elite Burgundy producers.
The red 2018 Altos de la Hoya was produced with Monastrell grapes from old ungrafted vines. It has a creamy and balsamic touch with sweet spices intermixed with ripe berry fruit and notes of pencil lead and licorice, with the fruit being black rather than red. The palate is juicy and round, with very fine tannins and some creamy oak in the finish. Pleasant and easy to drink and understand.
