ABOUT

The 2022 Domaine du Pavillon de Chavannes Cuvée des Ambassades Côte de Brouilly is a refined expression of the historic terroir on the slopes of Mont Brouilly in Burgundy’s Beaujolais region. Crafted exclusively from Gamay vines planted on blue volcanic soils of granite and andesite, this cuvée is produced by the Jambon‑Chanrion family in a domaine dating back to 1861.

Hand‑harvested from high‑elevation parcels, the wine is fermented spontaneously in concrete vats and raised primarily in concrete with minimal use of oak, ensuring purity of fruit and sense of place.

With its deep garnet hue and an ABV around 12.5–13%, this is “very old‑school Gamay … garnet colour, beguiling aromatics, and a burst of refreshment in the mouth.”

The name “Cuvée des Ambassades” stems from the wine’s historical use by the French Ministry for foreign embassies, reflecting its elegant reputation.

TASTING NOTES

Nose:
Aromas of bright red cherry, raspberry, pomegranate, and a hint of wild violets, layered over mineral and smoke‑tinged undernotes of granite and volcanic rock.

Palate:
The palate offers lively acidity, juicy red fruit core, subtle spice and herbal hints (fresh thyme, peony florals) and fine tannins which combine to create a savory, mineral‑driven mid‑palate.

Finish:
The finish is persistent, with red‑fruit echoes, minerality, a slight saline tension and a refined tannic grip that invites another sip.

FOOD PAIRING

Grilled or roasted duck breast with a cherry‑reduction sauce — complements the red‑fruit profile and savory undertones.

Classic Coq au Vin (Beaujolais style) — aligns with the wine’s regional heritage and structure.

Charcuterie and cured meats — the wine’s acidity and fruit balance the richness of salumi and pâté.

Mushroom risotto or earthy vegetarian dishes — the mineral backbone and herbal hints provide excellent harmony.
