ABOUT

Grosjean's Cornalin "Vigne Rovettaz" is a distinguished red wine from Italy's Valle d'Aosta region, specifically the village of Quart. This wine is crafted from the Cornalin grape, a local variety unique to the area, not to be confused with the Cornalin of the Valais region in Switzerland. The grapes are sourced from a half-hectare of vines planted on the steep, south-facing slopes of the Rovettaz vineyard, characterized by sandy glacial moraine soils. The grapes are destemmed and undergo spontaneous fermentation in 42-hectoliter tronconic wooden vats for two weeks, followed by aging for eight months in foudres.

TASTING NOTES

Nose: The bouquet is subtly herbaceous with dominant notes of red cherry fruit, offering a fresh and inviting aroma.

Palate: On the palate, this full-bodied wine is lively, presenting flavors of dark cherry and raspberry, complemented by elegant acidity and the softest tannins.

Finish: The finish is smooth and persistent, with lingering notes of alpine herbs and flowers, indicative of its mountainous terroir.

FOOD PAIRING

Grosjean's Cornalin "Vigne Rovettaz" pairs excellently with a variety of dishes. Its bright acidity and fruit-forward profile make it an ideal companion to roasted or grilled meats, such as lamb or beef. It also complements hearty pasta dishes, particularly those with tomato-based sauces, and aged cheeses. For a regional pairing, consider serving it alongside traditional Valdostan dishes like carbonade (beef stewed in wine) or polenta concia (polenta with melted cheese).
