2022 Domaine Bois de Boursan Chateauneuf-du-Pape Rouge
ABOUT
ABOUT
Domaine Bois de Boursan stands among the few estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape still working entirely traditionally—organic farming, whole-cluster fermentations, and long aging in large old foudres.
The 2022 is a blend dominated by Grenache with Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault from rocky galets roulés, sandy parcels, and pockets of clay-limestone across all of the appellation’s key terroirs.
Hand harvest, full clusters, and native-yeast fermentations give the wine its signature wild aromatics and supple, layered structure. A slow maceration extracts deep color and refined tannins, while 18 months in old oak vats adds polish without overt wood.
In the glass, the wine opens with sun-warmed red berries, garrigue herbs, and dried flowers. As it breathes, darker notes appear—plum, black tea, peppercorn, and a faint smoky edge shaped by the Rhône’s warm, mistral-swept climate. Medium-plus bodied yet remarkably poised, this vintage balances generosity with a clean, mineral finish.
Powerful but not heavy, soulful yet approachable today, Bois de Boursan’s 2022 is the kind of Châteauneuf that rewards slow meals and long evenings. It will develop beautifully over the next 8–12 years.
