New Riff Distilling Single Barrel Straight Bourbon Whiskey
ABOUT
ABOUT
New Riff's very first Single barrel and is a heck of a product considering the age (4 years). They're definitely on the path towards greatness. A few more years in the barrel will definitely smooth it out and allow to gain some complexity. Nevertheless, tasty stuff!
- Appearance: Clear, not hazy.
- Nose: Very heavy caramel, much like their bottled-in-bond, with rye bread and corn aromas. Not much alcohol aroma which is nice for a barrel proof. A little bit of toasted marshmallow and oak.
- Taste: Much hotter on the tongue than the nose implied and with a heavy rye spice. A drop of water wouldn't hurt this. Rye bread and candy corn. Caramel syrup and maybe even a little bit of a cocoa sweetness/bitterness. After adding 3 drops of limestone water, the heat and spice mellowed itself a bit and really brought out that roasted marshmallow and cocoa. Like a smores but on rye crackers instead of
graham . Oak and a little bit of cherry licorice now. The water did this pour a favor. Definitely a viscous mouthfeel to this one. - Finish: The finish on this one is pretty satisfying. Alcohol
burn all the way down the throat and into the belly. Oak, caramel, spice and artificial cherry.
