Commanderie de la Bargemone Bascule

Commanderie de la Bargemone Bascule is an elegant dry red wine from the renowned Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence appellation in Provence, France. Produced by the esteemed Commanderie de la Bargemone, this wine is a blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon, perfectly capturing the warm, sun-drenched terroir of Provence. Known for its expressive character and harmonious balance, Bascule offers a refined yet approachable style, ideal for those who appreciate the unique charm of Provençal wines.

One of the top estates in the Coteaux d'Aix, a small, fine-wine district within the larger appellation of Provence, Bargemone produces the top-selling rosé at HPS. With more than 160 acres under vines, 2/3 of the production is dedicated to the dry rosé for which Provence is famous. Founded by Templar knights in the 13th century, the property was named "Bargemone" after the wealthy Provencal family that owned it for 200 years. It passed from their hands in the 1800's, with the vineyards finally succumbing to phylloxera, ending, temporarily, a proud 800 year tradition of winemaking. In 1973, French industrialist Jean-Pierre Rozan purchased the property, restored the Commanderie and replanted the vineyards. Production was up to 50,000 cases/year when Jean-Pierre passed away in 2006, and a controlling interest in the vineyards and winery was sold to current owners Christian and Marina Garin (both from local Provencal families).

Nose
The nose of Bascule is vibrant and aromatic, with inviting notes of ripe red cherries, blackberries, and plums. These fruit-forward aromas are complemented by subtle hints of dried herbs, black pepper, and a touch of garrigue, reflecting the wild, herbaceous landscape of Provence.

Palate
On the palate, this wine is medium-bodied and well-structured. The flavors of juicy red fruits are beautifully balanced by notes of spice, licorice, and a slight earthy undertone. The Grenache adds softness and fruitiness, while the Syrah brings structure and spice, and the Cabernet Sauvignon contributes depth and complexity.

Finish
The finish is long and smooth, with lingering notes of ripe berries, herbs, and a delicate touch of minerality. The well-integrated tannins and bright acidity ensure a clean, refreshing aftertaste, making each sip a pleasure.

Commanderie de la Bargemone Bascule pairs wonderfully with a variety of Mediterranean-inspired dishes. Its fruit-forward character and balanced structure make it an excellent match for grilled meats, particularly lamb, beef, and pork.
