Brick & Mortar Anderson Valley Chardonnay

$ 20

The fruit for the 2018 Anderson Valley Chardonnay is sourced from vineyards both in the heart of Boonville, as well as the “Deep End” of Anderson Valley. In a mix of certified sustainable and organic vineyards, Anderson Valley is much colder than other areas in California because of its proximity to the Pacific Ocean. This proximity provides the marine influence, bringing cool evenings and foggy mornings to create the perfect growing conditions for our bright and textured Anderson Valley Chardonnay.

The 2018 vintage was a vintage about patience. From the onset of the growing season, there were beautiful, steady growing conditions with abundant rains in the early season and endless sunshine on the emerging buds through flowering. Cool night and warm days lead to a slow and lengthened ripening, creating greater fruit complexity with beautiful bright acidity. The fruit for our 2018 Anderson Valley Chardonnay was harvested between mid-September to early-October, all around 22° brix.

We strive to allow the site to shine in every wine we produce. The Chardonnay is whole-cluster pressed and allowed to settle via gravity before being transferred to 100% neutral french oak barrels. Native primary fermentation occurs lasting upwards of six months. No malolactic fermentation nor bâtonnage is performed to the barrels in order to preserve a pure expression of the vineyard, as the intense sunlight of the site creates incredible texture in the fruit. Our Chardonnay is aged in barrels for ten months before a light fining and filtration prior to bottling.

The 2018 Anderson Valley Chardonnay expresses precise lemon zest and crushed shells with notes of juniper, just-ripe melon and struck flint. The palate is headlined with an racey acidity, coupled with citrus flavors and an expressive minerality. Well textured and structured, this Chardonnay fully expresses the beautiful sun and cool temperatures of Anderson Valley. Beautiful in its youth, we expect this Chardonnay to age gracefully and improve over the next 5+ years
