Buffalo Trace Prohibition Bourbon Collection
ABOUT
ABOUT
The Buffalo Trace Prohibition Collection is a unique and historical release from Buffalo Trace Distillery, celebrating the era of Prohibition in the United States (1920-1933). Buffalo Trace, then known as the George T. Stagg Distillery, was one of the few distilleries permitted to produce medicinal whiskey during Prohibition.
Collection Overview:
-
Old Stagg: A barrel-proof whiskey with an ABV of 132.4, it offers earthy notes of tobacco leaf, charred oak, and Luxardo cherries, leading to a finish of dry oak, leather, and vanilla powder.
-
Golden Wedding: A rye whiskey bottled at 107 proof, featuring herbal notes of fresh mint and spearmint, transitioning to dill and sweeter notes like pink bubblegum, with a thick mouthfeel and a lingering finish of baked pears and cinnamon.
-
Three Feathers: A 100-proof bottled-in-bond whiskey with a rich nose of char and oak sugars, and flavors of butterscotch, malted milk balls, and dried apricot. It has a long finish with notes of sweet and dark chocolate.
-
Walnut Hill: A high-rye bourbon at 90 proof, offering a surprisingly thin mouthfeel with flavors of peach, plum, and a hint of rye spice, leading to a smoky finish with medicinal cherry undertones.
-
Spiritus Frumenti: A wheated bourbon at 110 proof, featuring a nose of medicinal cherry and dark fruits, with a palate of black cherry, citrus, and light molasses, finishing with cocoa powder, bold oak, and rye spice.
Packaging:
The collection is presented in a custom-made wooden display case, with each bottle featuring 1920s-inspired labels and back cartons displaying cut-outs of doctors' prescriptions for medicinal whiskey.
