Domaine Chandon de Briailles Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Les Vergelesses
ABOUT
ABOUT
In Remington Norman and Charles Taylor’s book, The Great Domaines of Burgundy, Les Vergelesses and Île des Vergelesses are described as top sites in the village of Pernand-Vergelesses, “wines of weight and structure, capable of aging for twenty years or more.” Les Vergelesses is just below Île, lower on the slope with more clay and iron. This parcel faces east, like the best vineyards of Corton, and the 1.22 hectare parcel was planted in 1954.
TastingNotesAn overtly floral-suffused nose mixes discreet spice and earth whiffs with plum and various dark berry scents. I very much like the texture of the plump, round and suave medium-bodied flavors that possess slightly better depth on the youthfully austere and sneaky long finish. While this is built to reward a decade or more of cellaring, it’s not so imposing that it couldn’t be approached after 5ish years.
