Woodford Reserve Master's Collection No.18 Historic Barrel Entry Kentucky Malt Whiskey
ABOUT
ABOUT
The Woodford County distillery in the 1830s was the site of several discoveries and innovative methods that have become industry standards for bourbon today. The Master Distiller Chris Morris and Assistant Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall have used this rich history and their own inspiration for the 2022 Master's Collection release. This edition of the Master's Collection was created using newly-distilled whiskey, which was placed in barrels at a proof of 100. The proof of the "new make" is a critical factor in the aging process, and the standard proof for barrel entry has changed over the past 200 years. This resulted in the creation of the Historic Barrel Entry, a bold and rich expression of Woodford Reserve Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.
TastingNotesOn the nose, there is a captivating mix of vanilla bean and dried apple, which is further accentuated by hints of nutmeg, cinnamon, and clove. There is also a subtle aroma of cocoa. Roasted coffee and hazelnut give way to notes of dark cherry and plum, which are then combined with spearmint. The taste is characterized by rich toasted oak, which is balanced by overripe banana and a blend of cooked berry fruits. There are also hints of leather, coffee, and baking spices, which eventually transform into a combination of minty and dark chocolate flavors. The finish is long-lasting and dominated by the flavors of charred oak and leather. There is also a hint of orange oil, which leaves a pleasant sensation on the palate.
