Mocali’s 2020 Brunello di Montalcino reflects the estate’s traditional approach and the natural richness of a warm, balanced vintage.
Their southwest-facing vineyards sit on galestro and limestone soils that give Sangiovese both depth and mineral tension. The 2020 season delivered beautifully ripe fruit with superb concentration; carefully timed harvesting kept acidity vibrant despite the warmth.
Fermentation is done in large oak vats using native yeasts, followed by long aging in sizeable Slavonian barrels—Mocali’s signature method for crafting Brunello with structure, purity, and slow-developing complexity.
The wine opens with dark cherry, blackberry, dried rose, and subtle cedar. As it breathes, richer tones of tobacco leaf, cocoa, and warm spice emerge, all wrapped in fine, persistent tannins. The palate carries impressive density yet never feels heavy—Mocali’s style leans toward balance and classical restraint rather than overt power.
This 2020 release is already expressive, but its layered structure promises graceful evolution over the next 12–15 years.
