Schiavenza Langhe Nebbiolo
ABOUT
ABOUT
Schiavenza’s 2023 Langhe Nebbiolo distills the heart of Serralunga d’Alba into a bright, elegant, and unmistakably authentic expression of the grape.
The estate sources fruit from younger vines in crus surrounding their home village—plots resting on the region’s famed Helvetian soils: compact clay, limestone, and blue marl that give Nebbiolo its perfume, tension, and subtle iron grip.
Hand-harvested in early October, the clusters are fully destemmed and fermented on native yeasts in cement vats. A gentle maceration preserves aromatic lift—rose, sour cherry, and sweet herb—while giving just enough tannic backbone to echo Barolo’s structure without its heft.
After fermentation, the wine spends 12 months in large, neutral Slavonian botti, a hallmark of Schiavenza’s traditional style. This long, slow aging polishes the wine’s edges while keeping it transparent, linear, and terrifically food-oriented.
The result: a luminous ruby Nebbiolo that balances juicy red fruit and floral charm with earthy undertones and fine, chalky tannins. Fresh, honest, and absolutely classic, it’s the kind of Langhe Nebbiolo you buy by the case for weeknight pastas and lazy Sunday roasts.
